Affordable living

Finding somewhere to live in Budapest is not difficult, depending on your budget and requirements. Prices in Budapest depend on the location of the property. If you are successful with your application with EPAM, you may be eligible for an accommodation allowance.

As a general indication, the cost of leasing a 1 room apartment with kitchen, toilet and bath starts around 45,000 HUF per month. Utilities, such as power and water are additional costs.

Banking and insurance

The monetary unit in Hungary is the Forint (Ft/ HUF). There are denominations of 200, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10.000, and 20.000 banknotes, and 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 of coins. See details here.

Both the local banks and many international banks represented by branches in Budapest provide the usual commercial banking services. Transfers can be made without difficulty as there is no exchange control and the Hungarian forint is freely convertible.

Bank opening hours are around 8.00 am to 17.00 pm, from Monday to Friday, a few on Saturday to 1.00 pm.

Visa, Visa Electron, Maestro, MasterCard are generally accepted in most stores, and ATMs are frequent.

Insurance for cars and household contents can be bought easily as there are several established national and international insurance companies in Budapest.
